New Gender Test Sparks Controversy

A simple blood test during pregnancy can detect baby's gender at just seven weeks.

While this is beneficial for families that carry a history of sex-related genetic disorders, some experts worry that this test could be used for other reason.

Gender selection using IVF is another way to predict the gender of a child early on. However this procedure is very expensive, unlike the new blood test.

Because the test shows gender early on, many doctors are worried that they will see more abortions in the future, just based on preference. While this may seem totally unethical, this practice already occurs in countries like India, Armenia and China, where boy babies are prized.
