Where Can You Find Affordable Infertility Treatments? Cyprus

Cyprus, a Mediterranean island just off the coast of southern Turkey, is a popular place to get away from it all.

From its rich history and unique multicultural atmosphere to the shopping, dining, nightlife and beaches, Cyprus is the perfect vacation destination.

Today however, Cyprus is becoming much more than a haven for relaxation. It's also an up-and-coming medical tourism destination, most famous for infertility.

The reason stems from the long waiting lists and high prices of infertility treatments in places like the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.

Many couples simply cannot afford to undergo IVF in their home countries, and are not willing to sacrifice their financial security to do so. Instead, they choose to become infertility tourists, traveling for infertility treatments in Cyprus that are affordable, high-tech, and safe; which makes for a genuinely stress-free experience.

New Gender Test Sparks Controversy

A simple blood test during pregnancy can detect baby's gender at just seven weeks.

While this is beneficial for families that carry a history of sex-related genetic disorders, some experts worry that this test could be used for other reason.

Gender selection using IVF is another way to predict the gender of a child early on. However this procedure is very expensive, unlike the new blood test.

Because the test shows gender early on, many doctors are worried that they will see more abortions in the future, just based on preference. While this may seem totally unethical, this practice already occurs in countries like India, Armenia and China, where boy babies are prized.

Gender Selection and Diet: Does it Really Work?

When you first become pregnant, everybody asks, "Is it a boy or a girl?"

While there are gender selection technologies available through infertility treatments like IVF, what if you could eat your way to a certain gender?

Some people claim that it works like a charm. Eating things like cheeseburgers and yogurt can give you a boy, and tofu and lean meats can give you a girl.

While it does sound like a whole bunch of hype, many couples swear by this technique, but experts still place focus on an overall healthy diet; which should be priority during every pregnancy.

MicroSort: The Latest Infertility Innovation

MicroSort is the newest treatment for preventing genetic diseases prior to conception.

Like pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD), MicroSort technology also allows couples to dramatically increase their chances of having a child of a certain sex.

This feature has brought a lot of controversy to this infertility procedure, especially in the United States. The FDA has forbidden the use of MicroSort for gender selection purposes, even though it's completely safe and effective. The FDA's ethical hangups have gotten in the way of an innovative service to patients who desperately want to have a baby with a certain gender.

Fortunately, countries like Mexico and Cyprus offer MicroSort for genetic diagnosis AND gender selection, so there is still an option out there for couples willing to try this.
