Male Infertility and Heart Disease Linked

Becoming a father enriches a man's life and health, according to a new study.

In the largest examination of infertility and mortality, Dr. Michael Eisenberg, a male infertility expert at Stanford University, found that men without children had a 17 percent higher chance of dying from heart disease.

He said, “A lot of times when we see men for infertility, they’re very young. A lot of these men are totally healthy. It’s sort of eye-opening to hear there could be something else going on.”

The results also revealed a higher chance of stroke and cancer among childless men.

While the study doesn't prove a definite connection between male infertility and poor health later on in life, it has prompted Dr. Eisenberg and his research team to continue their analysis.
